Mimi Joan is an artist & designer based in the inner west of Sydney. A graduate from COFA, UNSW, her practice is inspired by minimalism, using pencil, graphite, and pen to create line based portraits of androgynous and peculiar faces. An underlying awkwardness permeates the faces of the unknown characters: their eyes illuminating the social anxiety and idiosyncrasies that can be revealed when meeting another’s gaze.
In her "Wander" series Miriam explores the loneliness, yet freedom associated with wandering, as we often wander when we are not tethered physically or emotionally. Her minimalist approach to her materials ties in with the conceptual meaning behind her work, with bodies or faces often floating, detached as if deep in thought.
These high quality prints are an ideal representation of the original work.
