Being one of 10 children, when we were out there was always a tribe of us.
Inevitably some busybody would approach my parents with the question: “are these all yours” – obviously staring at myself or my sister. My dad would say: “nah. That one’s adopted”, and point to the nearest white kid.
It was wonderful to watch their faces as their brains went into meltdown.
