Sue NINHAM

Sue Ninham paints intuitively, finding the process of non-representation emotionally challenging, and intellectually stimulating. Abandonment and experimentation underpin her creative process. Working in this way she has developed a visual language consisting of form, space and colour that is perhaps reminiscent, but generally ambiguous. Pictorial planes are flattened and distorted, sometimes tipping perspective. Foreground and background are sometimes interchangeable and what is above and below confused.
Ninham is reluctant to quantify the meaning of the resulting works, preferring the viewer to find their own.

Sue was the winner of the Adelaide Fringe Poster, 2012. Her work was featured in the Australian String Quartet’s 2014 seasonal program identity ( see Scott Hicks’ 2015 documentary, “Highly Strung”). More recently, Sue has had her work installed in the new Royal Adelaide Hospital as part of HYLC joint venture, Integrated Art Initiative.
