A fulltime painter since 1990, Mary Shackman started her creative career working on a printed fashion range from the time she left the National Art School in 1963. Her work is rhythmic and soothingly repetitive as she interprets the patterns surrounding her in everyday life. Drawn from her inner space, Mary's work is themed from nature or a social commentary represented in broad patterns and colour. Sometimes freeform, Mary's work has been compared to 1960s psychedelic pop and a geometric abstraction aesthetic.

Painting links the artist to her inner self and gives relevance to her life.
