Marisabel is a Venezuelan born artist with particular interest in landscape interpretation. Her artistic expression reflects the variety of environments to which she had been exposed. Through the use of mixed media, her works are characteristically bold and dramatic; marked by the creation of textural layers with particular attention to colour, shapes and patterns.
She has been a guest artist at Retrospect Galleries in Byron Bay, NSW and ArtPharmacy Consulting features her work. She is currently working on a community project in collaboration with SBS Spanish, which will see its completion by June 2017.
She has been resident artist at the Warringah Creative Space in Curl Curl since August 2015 and will start a new cycle at Bushwick South Studios in Brookvale at the end of July 2016.
Her work is held in private and corporate collections in Venezuela, Dominican Republic, USA, Singapore, UK and Australia.
"My work is a response to the surroundings that impact me.This results in abstraction based on common links in the scenery of where I come from, Venezuela, and the country I now call home, Australia. I’m interested in raw, unmediated landscape, which generates the presence of something larger than us.
My process involves building up multiple layers of paint beginning with shapes taken from sketches and photos of a particular environment. Each layer participates in a process of response—not only to the shape of landscape that preceded it, but also to the colors that came before it. These semi-transparent layers create a visible history of mark making, aided by the use of multiple materials such as oils, sand, paper, gesso and gel." - Marisabel Gonzalez
