Gabrielle Soulsby is a graduate from the Australian National University School of Art. These are selected pieces from her body of work titled "Sensus". In this body of work she explores the intangible qualities of human consciousness, concepts of self and identity through the process of printing.
Gabrielle creates Monotypes that record a spontaneous action, an engagement with materials and surfaces that are in a cycle of change. The images are shifting, disappearing, appearing, evolving and creating voids. Haunting shapes that almost resemble figures float and move across the paper's surface, reminiscent of ghostly spectres. Gabrielle works in a series of layers, where she builds a network of marks in her compositions, some observed and some imagined and created spontaneously.
