Gabrielle Jones is a graduate from the National Art School. The imagery she employs in her figurative and abstract works distils the essence of her experiences from the sights and sounds at the edges of her everyday world. Gabrielle’s specialty is large, centrepiece paintings in oil that express a joy in the medium of paint and that combine realism with abstraction and pattern. Embracing the notion of chance in both her subject matter and her painting technique, Gabrielle’s work exhibits a multiplicity of layers and creative applications of paint – from the use of stencils, spray paint, rollers, spatulas, heavily loaded or dripping brushes and poured paint, to acrylic mixed with oil paint which encourages random, interesting patterns. The process of the making of the work results in meaning, thoughts and observations becoming embedded in the layers -figuration may remain, or be transformed into abstraction, evidence of the artist slip-streaming the creative impulse in response to her environment and trusting that the hand of the artist will win out.
With a passion for the texture and flow of paint, and the touch of the brush, the artist seeks to portray both an illusion and the fact of using paint. Her love of colour and all its possibilities is evident in her work and the paintings express her mastery, control of and abandonment to its seductive forces
