Eleanor Amiradaki

Drawing from personal and collective memory, Eleanor's work is concerned with the human condition and the underlying duality of existence. Through her multidisciplinary practice and delicate sensitivity she navigates the often-abstracted offerings of our mysterious inner worlds, exploring themes of place, belonging, {dis}connection, ritual and aspects of psyche in an attempt to explore what it is to be human. Her work, lyrical in quality is marked with a strong personal mythology and seeks to navigate the transitory nature of life.

The Totem Series are a group of ephemeral portraits alluding to a collective and ancient ancestry. Highly symbolic they reference the cyclical nature of life and our subsequent relationship with the natural world, serving as conduits of the in-between. Subtle use of charcoal, graphite and watercolour are woven together to create organic forms which are of the earth yet imbued with human qualities. The use of strong colour and highly detailed embellishments indicates their parallel relationship to the realms beyond that of the physical world. Together they explore the fragility and heartbreaking beauty and impermanence of life.

Sydney based, Eleanor is a multi-disciplinary artist whose practice encompasses drawing, printmaking, and time-based forms. She holds an Honours Degree in Visual Communications and is currently completing her Masters of Art at UNSW Art & Design.
